Defect / Noncompliance Description
Describe the defect or noncompliance: Due to improper software programming, the center information display unit may show a black screen after the transmission is shifted from reverse to other drive positions within a certain time. If the transmission is shifted into reverse following this display error, the screen remains black, rather than displaying the reverse camera view.
Describe the safety risk: If the reverse camera view does not appear on the center screen when the vehicle is driven in reverse, the risk of a crash or injury are increased.
Describe the cause: The supplier of the center information display unit, Alps Alpine North America, Inc., informed Honda the software settings contained a programming defect which occurs when the transmission is shifted out of reverse and into another drive position within a certain time. When the center information display unit attempts to change out of the reverse camera image, the unit mistakenly interprets the signal as an internal error, resulting in a black screen, despite shifting the transmission back into reverse.
Identify the Remedy
Describe the defect / noncompliance remedy program, including the manufacturer’s plan for reimbursement: Registered owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Acura dealer. The dealer will replace the center information display unit with an improved part.
Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense may be eligible for reimbursement, in accord with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.
Identify the Recall Schedule
Describe the recall schedule for notifications: Dealer notification is scheduled to begin and end on or about 1/28/2025. Owner notification is scheduled to begin and end on or about 3/3/2025.
