Defect / Noncompliance Description
*Describe the defect or noncompliance: The right front lower control link may contain a manufacturing defect, potentially causing it to fracture.
*Describe the safety risk: If the right front lower control link fractures during use, vehicle control could be reduced or lost without warning to the driver, increasing the risk of a crash.
Describe the cause: General Motors (GM), which manufactured the affected vehicles, informed Honda that during the aluminum extrusion process for the control links at issue, the end remnant of the prior aluminum extrusion remained on the extruding stem instead of falling off after being cut from the immediately preceding control link, contaminating the subsequent control link extrusion. This contamination can make the control link susceptible to fracture. Initial quarantine efforts by the tier-3 supplier missed one shipment of potentially affected parts.
Identify the Remedy
Describe the defect / noncompliance remedy program, including the manufacturer's plan for reimbursement: Registered owners of all affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer. The dealer will inspect and, if necessary, replace the right front lower control link.
Owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense may be eligible for reimbursement, in accord with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA.
Describe what distinguishes the remedy component from the recalled component: Remedy components do not have contaminated material.
Identify and describe how and when the recall condition was corrected in production: GM informed Honda the tier-3 supplier improved its production, quality control, and parts containment procedures in January-February 2024.
Identify the Recall Schedule
Describe the recall schedule for notifications: Dealer notification is scheduled to begin and end on or about 7/19/2024. Owner notification is scheduled to begin and end on or about 9/2/2024.
