Acura Recalls Nearly 153,000 MDX Vehicles; Potential Issue Can Cause Tailgate Lid Lights and/or Exterior Position Lights to Become Inoperative

  • Approximately 152,800 vehicles affected in the U.S. by issue that can cause rear tailgate lid lights and/or exterior position lights to become inoperative due to water intrusion
  • Following an inspection, Acura dealers will install a fuse harness and, as necessary, replace the lid light and repair the body dust sealer, free of charge
  • Acura has not received any confirmed reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue

Acura will voluntarily recall approximately 152,800 model-year 2014-2020 MDX vehicles in the U.S. due to an issue that can cause tailgate lights and/or exterior position lights to become inoperative.

Due to an uneven sealing surface, moisture can enter the tailgate lid light assemblies and reach certain electrical components. Contact with water can cause rear tailgate lid light failure and, in some cases, a short circuit that trips the position light fuse, deactivating exterior position lights and some interior lighting. Without functional exterior position lighting, a vehicle may not be visible to other traffic at night, increasing the risk of a crash.

Following an inspection, Acura dealers will install a fuse harness and, as necessary, replace the lid lights and repair the body dust sealer. The recall repair is free of charge.

Redesigned and repaired lid light assemblies installed from a previous position light recall of 2014-2019 Acura MDX vehicles do not sufficiently prevent moisture intrusion. As a result, some vehicles that were previously repaired require the updated repair procedure and are included in the new recall population. Additionally, 2014-2019 Acura MDX vehicles included in the previous recall that have not yet been repaired are superseded into this new recall population.

Acura has not received any reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue.

Acura is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer for repair as soon as they receive notification from Acura. Mailed notification will occur in late May 2025. Owners of 2014-2020 MDX vehicles can also determine if their vehicles require repair by visiting www.recalls.acura.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
